Director John Panaretos

John’s experience is in all facets of planning over a career spanning 30 years.
With qualifications in planning and urban design, John’s skills have seen him work in Europe and the Middle East as well as Australia in strategic, policy, urban design and development assessment roles. John worked for planning authorities in both Queensland and the Northern Territory before establishing Urban Strategies.
John was Chair of the Australian Institute of Urban Studies (Qld) when it was the catalyst for the Urban Design Alliance in Queensland. He has appeared as an expert witness in numerous Planning and Environment Court appeals and acts as Chairman/Referee for the Building and Development Tribunal from time to time.
As Education Coordinator of the PIA (Qld), John convened and sat on the Review Committee for the accreditation of three of Queensland’s four planning schools.
John also sits on the Brisbane City Council’s Infrastructure Working Group, established to advise the Lord Mayor on ways to reduce exorbitant infrastructure charges, in both the short and long term and represented the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) at the recent Integrated Development Assessment System (IDAS) review workshop.
